More than a week ago I have sent an e-mail to everybody who has published data of a horse on Horsian.com requesting confirmation that the search is ongoing.
Some background information:
Unfortunately it turns out again and again that horses published on Horsian.com
have been found
or that
no further information on the history is of interest
or that
the supplied mail address is no longer working
and that we have not been informed about it even though we probed regularly.
As announced in the e-mail I have now moved the horses, for which no appropriate reply returned, to the Archive.

Today, I rechecked by e-mail if the search is ongoing.

Do you know that feeling when heading over to the barn for a night check and the batteries of the flashlight finally ran out? And no replacement on hand? Or you can not find the * in the corner of the the tack room because it is simply too dark?
Well, almost six years ago, the Sony Ericsson W810i brought light into the tricky tasks of my live: The white LED of the flash could be used as a flashlight. Not only for that simple, but ingenious, feature, this is still my phone! Still first battery and no issues. It has probably being riding more horses than most other phones. Six years and still going strong.
Hubby, of course, tried to get me into smartphones. Until he was tired hearing the same questions:
“Does it have a flashlight functionality?”
“How is the size? Does it fit into the small pocket of my riding breeches?”
Until the iPhone 4 his answers were “not convincing”. The iPhone 4 has an app – I believe. But still not small enough and far too sensitive for our dusty environment.
Sony Ericsson Xperia™ active (ST17) announcement
Hubby, again, sent some links showing the following features:
Water- and dust-resistant
Wet-finger tracking
Gear kit with, for example, an arm case and wrist strap
etc., etc.
“Flash / light type – LED”
...is announced in the Camera specification. Wonder, if it works independently?
The size?
W810i
100.0 × 46.0 × 19.0 mm / 3.9 × 1.8 × 0.7 inches
Xperia™ active
92.0 × 55.0 × 16.5 mm / 3.6 × 2.2 × 0.6 inches
iPhone4
115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm / 4.5 x 2.31 x 0.37 inches
Sounds already good to me! It is scheduled to be available in Q3/2011. Price not yet announced.
Back to the links hubby sent:
“It supports ANT+ wireless technology for connecting sport and fitness equipment.”
Vision
Now, this is the point when I started seeing applications!
How about using the Xperia™ active for attaching equine “fitness equipment”? For monitoring the vitals when rehabbing horses? Horses that need to be conditioned very carefully due to heart, lung problems, for example. Or eventers that are already fit and conditioned, but that show in a very different climate than their body is used to?!
My vision: The Xperia™ active attached to the rider’s arm using the arm case and connected via ANT+ to the horses’ monitoring device. Can you see it, too?!
I am waiting for the phone to be released to check for my required features. And then I have to complete my wish list for Christmas.
Thanks for reading this, slightly unusual, publication on Horsian.com,
Petra>
PS. Personally, I do not like riding and talking on the phone, but to be complete: I guess the phone will be operable with a headset when in the arm case.
PPS. No, I do not have any connections to the phone industry. I am just picky when it comes to required features and I believe this phone could be perfect for the equine world. Hope you like me sharing my thoughts!
Since we were not the only ones being unhappy about a bright graphic in the Horsian.com Slideshow, I spent today saving the photos with another hoster. Please compare:
